Brembo GT brakes are high-performance braking systems designed mainly for enthusiasts, racing, and track use (Brembo, n.d). They can be found on a variety of vehicles, particularly in higher end models and performance-oriented vehicles. These systems can also be purchased as aftermarket kits and come in various customisable configurations to suit different vehicles and drivers. Each brake kit typically includes multi-piston aluminium calipers, ventilated rotors, high-performance brake pads, and installation hardware.
The aluminium calipers help reduce unsprung weight and improve clamping force, while the larger, two-piece floating ventilated rotors enhance heat dissipation and reduce brake fade (Brembo, n.d.). As for the brake pads, they are able to withstand high temperatures, making them suitable for track and racing use especially in extreme conditions (Thola, 2022). Additionally, Brembo GT brakes come in a variety of colors, adding aesthetic appeal to vehicles.
For car enthusiast seeking superior braking performance and improved responsiveness over the standard brakes of their vehicles, the Brembo GT brakes are a cost effective and reliable upgrade.
Most cars have basic brake systems that consists of single-piston sliding calipers and non-ventilated rotors. On the other hand, Brembo GT brakes come with multi-piston calipers (4,6 or 8) and two-piece ventilated rotors with diameters up to 405mm (Brembo, n.d). These features improve braking force resulting in shorter braking distances.
According to Brembo (2022), in a braking test from 150km/h to 0km/h done by Automoto.it, the upgraded Brembo brakes outperformed the standard brake system found on a 7th generation Volkswagen Golf R. When fitted with Brembo brakes, the car managed to stop in 81.49m while the standard brakes managed to stop at 87.77m. This highlights the superior performance of the Brembo system and shows how it can enhances the vehicles safety especially when travelling at higher speeds.
Brembo is very reputable brand in the automotive industry thanks to its extensive involvement in motorsport competitions around the world. The company has been the brake supplier for the majority of Formula 1 teams for several decades and continue to do so for the 2024 season (Brembo,2024). Their ongoing presence and trust placed in them by many championship-winning teams attests to their reliability.
One drawback of the Brembo GT brake is their high upfront cost. According to Race Technologies (n.d), the cost of a complete kit can range from $1595 - $5695 USD. For the average driver, this expense may not be worth it especially if they do not require the enhanced braking performance.
